Artist Seeking Scriptwriter : Sydney

Joel Beasant wrote and produced the musical comedy 'I Dream of Johnny' which ran for a month at the Newtown Theatre in December 2005. The play saw John Howard lose his passport (and his trousers), only to end up on a desert island with an equally naked Tony Abbott before they both got chucked into Baxter. The play mixed real quotes from the people portrayed, as part of the dialogue, in high-camp and sometimes sombre situations that showed their flawed logic.

Joel is now seeking script-writers to collaborate on 'Terror the musical.' Terror the Musical takes the angle of looking at the popularisation of jingoistic and military paraphanlia and identity for youth. We see shows like 'Border Patrol' reflection xenophobic policies on refugees and, most recently, 'Sea Patrol' popularising the military's targetting of those seeking Human Rights protection in Australia, by paralleling army recruitment strategies. Then young patriots bully concert goers to 'Kiss the flag...' at the Big Day Out etc etc.

The play approaches the subject from two directions. From the top down it looks at how government policies filter down to shape identity, and from the bottom up how fashion is used to market these agendas to the young. While also high energy and full of popular references and asides, 'Terror' will probably be more Oliver Stone meets West Side story than Benny Hill.

Joel is seeking to employ a professional script-writer who has the ability to condense and guide his ideas, rampant political brain and forked-tongue humour. Contact Joel on 02 9797 1339 to discuss further. Required ASAP.
